Cycling and walking on Walcheren

Dune trip between Koudekerke and Zoutelande

Discover Walcheren’s beautiful nature during a walking or cycling trip. The Zeeland island of Walcheren has many natural areas that are way too beautiful, extended and relaxing not to be discovered during your holiday. A popular hiking path for example, is the route across the dunes, between the villages of Koudekerke and Zoutelande. Enjoy an amazing view of the river Western Scheldt from the high dunes. Do you turn around? You are able to enjoy the vast green countryside of Zeeland. Walking and cycling with respect for nature: all walking and cycling paths in the dunes and the dune transition points are freely accessible, but the remainder of the area is protected. Descend a dune once in a while to have a drink or an ice cream in one of the beach pavilions on the beach.

Cycling cafés on Walcheren

The environment of Walcheren is ideal to be discovered by bicycle: all places can be reached relatively easy and quickly. The island also has good cycling paths. Also very bicycle-friendly:
so-called cycling cafés can be found everywhere on Walcheren. Even if you don’t use the catering facilities, you can still use the amenities of the café, such as fixing or inflating your tyre or charge your electric bike for free. Check out the Zeeland cycling cafés here.

Tip: take the ferry from Breskens to Vlissingen

You and your bicycle are able to cross the river Western Scheldt from Breskens to Vlissingen and the other way around, with a ferry for pedestrians and cyclists! It is therefore easy to explore the island of Walcheren from Breskens, and from Vlissingen it is easy to discover the seaside town of Breskens and the other beautiful areas of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The trip takes approximately 23 minutes.
